Reading project: Let a child read

Besides reading for school, we also want to encourage reading for pleasure. Children are curious by nature. When a child is able to read, it would like to read more. Talking about what you have read means exchange of information and learning from each other. In this way children expand their basic knowledge and are encouraged to learn more. The new textbooks are attractive, colorful and full of pictures.

Lao teachers, however, have never had the chance to read other books than textbooks. They find it difficult to encourage children to read for pleasure. That is why volunteers together with them are setting up a reading project. They assist the teachers and give them the tools to be able continuing the project themselves. ‘Room to Read’ a Laotian foundation, provides free library books and the volunteers pay for their own transportation and living expenses. Thus, our investments fully benefit the project.
